Actually, it would be more accurate to say that continuing to do it without first temporarily making the advertisement of it my full-time job is unsustainable. I could have written this post anytime in the last two weeks, but I just got around to it now for various reasons. If you live in the Greater Toronto Area, you may have already seen my posters on certain bulletin boards, but these tend to end up only appearing in the same small part of town over and over again unless I’m prepared to do a fair bit of travelling. I also have my eye on some merchandising possibilities – and again, this is not something a person can simply use their “spare energy and time” to do. With this obstacle in mind, I’d also like to cordially invite you to the Hyping Me Up Party. The location of this event is anywhere you happen to be and the time is from now until all of us are dead. There is no dress code, but please bring a BIG MOUTH. If you have ever felt that more people should see these comics, now is the time to do something about that. Share them. Quote them. Go around acting like getting these references is mandatory and anyone who doesn’t is super-lame and/or Helping Capitalism Or Something. Oh yeah, and while you’re at it, shamelessly try to rip me off in your own shit. Please. I may not directly get anything from that, but maybe comics in general will. Maybe. Or maybe not. I’M JUST SAYING IT MIGHT BE WORTH A SHOT, OKAY?!
In all seriousness, though, doing this is so fulfilling that I consider myself lucky. “Lucky for what?”, you might be wondering. “You made this because you had an idea and believed in it, and you kept going because you cared enough to surpass any obstacle that got in your way, and now you’re switching gears and no one is trying to stop you? What does luck have to do with it? That sounds like something you should take TOTAL CREDIT for!” Mmmm….well, not exactly. See, opportunity works in mysterious ways. Not everyone who deserves one gets one. And not everyone was a relatively well-off Canadian in their 20s who lived close to downtown, had a decent amount of post-secondary education in a few different fields of artistic endeavor, was tirelessly supported by a loving, understanding family and had an obsessive preoccupation with some of the most original, daring and gifted artists of the 20th and 21st Centuries and clearly identified the ideal moment to synthesize all of these advantages into an expression of pure, unfettered independence and ambition as RIGHT FUCKING NOW in 2014. But I was.
The last three years have been whatever a world that’s in this kind of shape would call sanity. Take from that what you will. And stay tuned…..
